A 'Magic Lantern'

As the antique photos were taken in the days before colour photography, they were hand-colourised using a fine brush and special inks  (bar 3 which were digitally colourised as part of our current services).

The images are captured in the Victorian format known as ' Magic Lantern' Slides, many of which are exquisitely hand coloured in this pre-colour photoraphy era.

These slides would have been used on a Magic Lantern projector (above left) to show to a room of people, or used on an enlarger to create prints..They are made from two glass plates with a photographic solution applied to the inner sides (44mm x 44mm).

If you know the names of any of the unnamed flowers, gardens, places and people, drop us a line at research@malby.info and we would be very grateful!
